Immunology Training Grant gets renewal

The Immunology Training Grant, with Kris Hogquist as PI, was just renewed by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for another five years.  This grant has funded immunology graduate students at the University of Minnesota Medical School since 1989 or 28 years of continuous funding.  

Nelson receives Cancer Center Grant

Andy Nelson is a recipient of a $50,000 Masonic Cancer Center Translational Working Group Grant.  His proposal was “Creation of a Tissue Microarray”, a Breast Cancer Translational Working Group Pilot project.

There be twins!

Sarah and Scott Williams are the happy (exhausted) parents of twin boys, Evan Gregory and Bennett Alan, born Friday, July 28.  Mom and babies are all healthy and doing well.  See photo below.

PA receives recognition

Meghan Pickard, pathologists’ assistant, recently received an Extraordinary U+ award.  Pickard was recognized for going above and beyond to help during a period of short staffing and keeping a positive attitude while doing it.  These awards are given through the U+ program at University of Minnesota Physicians.

Read updates from the Dean’s office

  • ISH/Gallagher consultants are on site interviewing department heads, UMP leadership and center directors about compensation and operations.  Both Dr. Furcht and Kathleen Dockter met with the consultants.  This addresses the Board of Regents concerns about the alignment between UMP and the Medical School.
  • Discussions continue to be positive between the U’s negotiating team (which includes President Kaler) and Children’s on a potential partnership.  
  • The Women in Leadership Committee is collecting salary equity data and also focusing on professional development opportunities for women.

Medical School offers the P3 program to help grant writing
