Mroz is first of new faculty on site

Barnes residency grant funded
Aaron Barnes, PGY-2, was awarded $2,500 from the department for his grant application “Rapid Antibiotic Resistance Detection via Quantitative MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry.” Working with Patricia Ferrieri, Barnes will attempt to use MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry for rapid identification of antibiotic resistance gene expression to reduce the TAT from days to hours.
ALRT hires a financial analyst
Rachel Brisson starts in mid- August as the new ALRT financial analyst providing support to Laboratory Medicine and Pathology as well as two other ALRT departments. Brisson will calculate the wRVU reports for the department, among other financial responsibilities. She most recently worked at University of Minnesota Physicians but also has experience at Hamline University, the U’s Office of Technology Commercialization, and the Commercial Associations of Realtors. Brisson will have an office on 760 Mayo in the ALRT Center.

- The Medical School’s CTSI application received a “fantastic” score of 20; there is optimism about funding. The School plans to open a one stop Clinical Research Services Center on 2PWB sometime in the near future.
- The University Foundation raised an all-time record $78 million in donations for the Medical School.
- Negotiations will continue on a renewal of the MHealth agreement. Our goal is to integrate our three part mission and provide world-class destination services for both complex and primary care conditions.
